HAPPY 100th BIRTHDAY, SIR DOUGLAS!!

Had he lived, our eponymous inspiration would have been 100 today. We acknowledge his Centenary Year and feel sure that he would be proud of the new initiatives and Events that we have in place to honour it. BADER BRAVES, launched on the 10th February is now up and running with several Events already in the pipeline and to be announced on this Website very soon, and we have another exciting string to the Foundation bow also to be announced shortly.

Wow. I hadn’t heard of him before, but then my Dad suggested I read Reach For The Sky for my year 12 english project, and I have to say, I am so inspired and impressed! What an incredible man.

  1. My husband and I only recently learned about Sir Douglas through Paul Bruckhill’s biography “Reach for the Sky.” I found the story completely inspirational. Happy 100th to a true hero.

I met him when I was seven years old and a hero of war stories to my generation of children, I never knew he would be an inspiration to me when I became an amputee but I am glad I met him because it made me realise that if I want to do something I should go for it. I have never believed myself disabled, I think of myself as inconvenienced and all thanks to Douglas Bader.

  2. I am from Brazil and I am a disabled since I was born, 35 years ago. Douglas Bader became both a great inspiration and a hero for me, since I read his feats during the Battle of Britain, a couple of decades ago. He was a gift for the Mankind!!!!

You’re special to us you know! So we thought you’d like a more personal service for more specific advice or maybe to make a 1-2-1 contact with another amputee.
